Nietzsche path to Eze village

Eze village the eagle’s nest

The village of Eze is located 427 meters above the sea. On the highest point of the village lies an exotic garden : the Jardin Exotique d’Eze. It offers on of the most unique panorama of  the French Riviera.

The Jardin was built on an ancient ruin of a medieval fortress. From this height, you will be able to spot the baie of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, the Esterel Mountains and even the Golf of Saint Tropez. With a very clear weather and lots of luck, it is even possible to spot the relief of Corsica.

How to get to Eze village ?

To reach the village, you have two options. You can either go by car or by bus with 112 and bus 82 which goes all the way up to the Col d’Eze and bus 11. The sportier alternative is to walk up the Nietzsche’s path.

The path starts off from the train station, and climbs over 400 meters (1300 feets), for about 5 kms. The trail is pretty steep, but secured, so can be done with children who are up to take up the challenge.

At the beginning of the hike, the signs indicate an average of 1:30 hours in total. In fact, it will really depend on how sportive your are, the time of the year, and how long you appreciate the landscape, which is stunning all way long. We did the walk within 30 minutes, although we left the train station at 9am in May. The heat can quickly becomes unbearable from 11am, therefore we do recommend to leave by the early morning, with good shoes and fresh water if possible. If you want to do it during June or August, the best decision would probably to go up by bus and descend by the Nietzsche hiking path.
